Whether your boating passion is an 18-foot bowrider or a 38-foot fly bridge, there is no substitute for the 2008 Chevy Silverado. Available in regular cab, extended cab or spacious six-passenger crew-cab configurations, there is a body design, engine and chassis configuration designed for your needs – from the affordable 1500 series to the mighty 3500HD dually. With rugged styling and well-earned bragging rights as the most dependable, longest-lasting truck on the road1, Silverado delivers maximum towing performance, surpassing all of its half–ton crew cab competitors2.
Make that performance and civility. Because inside every Chevy Silverado is roomy, comfortable seating, an array of handy storage solutions, and a long list of convenience amenities. The list starts with standard XM Radio®4, and ranges to available features like supple leather seats, a choice of audio systems, a DVD entertainment system, and niceties such as power-adjustable foot pedals and a remote vehicle starter.
Today’s pickups are designed to be safer than ever, and the Silverado proves it with features that inspire plenty of confidence. The 2008 Silverado half-ton received the highest possible frontal and side-impact crash safety ratings – five stars – in recent government testing5. Silverado also features StabiliTrak® – an electronic stability control system that helps improve vehicle stability during emergency maneuvers6 – and a tire pressure monitoring system. Standard OnStar® with Safe & Sound Plan3, dual-stage front airbags7 and the added protection of a safety cage and crush zone all add to the secure feeling you get in a new Silverado.
When you’ve got a Texas-sized boat to tow – and maybe the entire state of Texas to pull it across – you can depend on Silverado to get it done. First you’ll have to choose from a variety of available engine options. There are four strong, half-ton Vortec engine choices ranging from the dependable Vortec 4.3L V6 up to the muscular 367 hp Vortec MAX 6.0L V8. The 315 hp Vortec 5.3L V8 offers impressive power while delivering the best V8 fuel economy of any full-size pickup8.
Then there’s the incredible Duramax 6.6L V8 turbodiesel9. The Duramax has the guts to pull almost any boat anywhere with an earth-shaking 365 hp and 660 lbs-ft torque and driving through an Allison six-speed transmission. Then choose two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, or a dually rear-wheel setup on the 3500HD model which has a staggering 16,500-pound maximum towing capacity.
Rest assured, the Silverado can carry as well as tow, with a best-in-class maximum half-ton Crew Cab 4x4 payload capacity of 1,921 lbs. Add the Z71 Off-Road Package with an available Autotrac 4x4 System and GM exclusive automatic locking rear differential, and the Silverado can conquer some of the most challenging conditions imaginable.
